Blue Dog Congressional Democrats, joined by reactionary GOPs, expressed outrage at their stunning loss of the chair of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee to progressive icon Henry Waxman (D-21st Century):
Particularly upset were the conservative Blue Dog Democrats. One member said they were “in orbit — they think it’s a California takeover.”
The Blue Dogs appear terrified of the leftward turn Henry Waxman's upset victory might signal, and caution him to hew to the Magic Center:
Rep. Charlie Melancon (La.), a fellow new Blue Dog leader, agreed that centrists are still willing to work with Waxman.
“Give the man the opportunity to demonstrate that we’re not going ‘hard left,’ or ‘off the cliff’,” Melancon said. “There’s no fears, but there’s some concerns.”
Ha, ha! "Some concerns" that required you to change your underwear, maybe, Blue Dog?
And when a reactionary right-wing GOP joins the concern-trolling of the Blue Dogs, you can see who in Congress they are really most like:
Even a Republican, fellow Michigan Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, criticized Democrats for ousting Dingell. He noted that it came on the same day that a bailout for automakers collapsed in Congress.
“For working families, the American auto industry and our entire manufacturing base an already dim day has grown darker, due to this internecine betrayal of Chairman Dingell,” McCotter said in a statement.
It's a bright, progressive day for the People's House. We should celebrate this victory; it's a special one that bodes well for Progress and for Progressive ideas and ideals. Of course, some go-slow reactionaries in our party can't see through their monocles:
“I think it was highly inappropriate. There was no obvious reason to make this change,” said Rep. Rick Boucher (D-Va.), a Dingell whip and an ally on the measured approach to climate change. Another centrist Dingell supporter called the vote “an outrage.”
Boo fucking hoo. Your influence fades quickly as change overtakes the People's House. Can we hear a lamentation, please?
“We’ll work with the new leadership,” said Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (S.D.). “But to deny a man who defines the modern Congress ... is a mistake.”
Nice to know the Blue Dogs aren't planning to be completely obstructionist right out of the gate -- this "work with" attitude is one they ought to share with their GOP colleagues. It'll suit them as well.

“We’ll work with the new leadership,” said Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin (S.D.). “But to deny a man who defines the modern Congress … is a mistake.”
Defines this Congress? You mean the one with approval ratings worse than the Boy King? I know a lot of Senators are clueless morons, but House members too?
you know how good the news is by how loud they howl!
I love to hear the Blue Dogs squeal
dugg here
Loverly! Simply loverly. I love it when asshats scream. It sounds like victory. Remains to be seen, however, what the really means.
aaaawwww
Boo f’ing hoo is right. Cry assholes. I hope you do alot more of it in the months to come.
Henry’s going to take their SUVs away and make them eat tofu.
Hey Blue Dogs… try yellow…)
Oh, I hope so. And use CFLs and turn off the lights and recycle and everything. Poor darlings will be singing “kumbaya” before you know it.
I love how Mrs. Pelosi is always positioning her strategy. She can see far down the road and knows where she is going to lead the country.
More schadenfreudefest.
So when the fuck is she actually going to start leading? For the last two years all she has done is rollover and play dead when ever the Rethugs crossed their eyes.
Huh?
doubletriple “huh?”i’m really glad to see waxman instead of dingell. but after pelosi put reyes in at intelligence in 2006, i expect her support is more about a power play and less about who is the best person for the job.
Both Pelosi and Reid need to spend way more time with their families.
Dingell the man who has been in Congress since 1955, inheriting the seat his Father held since 1933. How in the world can anybody possibly claim he “defines the modern Congress”? If anything, he defines your Grandparent’s Congress. He is personally involved with the Big Three’s problems, with his pig headed refusal to agree to any kind of reasonable CAFE standards for decades.
Stephanie just proved she is not nearly as bright as I once thought. The Blue Dogs need to go next!
More andBetter Democrats!a little off topic but thought youse guys might want to see the email I got from Democrats.com maybe Bush can be tied in knots and not be able to pardon his whole wreaking crew!
Rep. Jerrold Nadler Leads Opposition to Bush Pardons
You mean there is more to it than happy progressive messaging? lol
bah, why does fdl now regex out smiley faces D:
To enter a petty point, I can’t stand the way Dingell talks, so sloooow.
I know, I know how a lot of you feel about her but I have seen some good in depth interviews with her where she talks about the issues, and now that she has more votes and Obama is President, things that she says she has laid the groundwork for over the last two years are going to start happening. At least that’s what I hope.
Only over here in the Silo. Over at the Mother Ship they still work.
She has had the votes for two years and just sat around with her thumb up her ass. It is past time for her to go far, far away.
/:/D
sorry for scribbling on your diary teddy.
oh, no! nothing is more important than happy progressive messaging! *g*
The thing is, I don’t want him to create laws that mandate what I should or shouldn’t drive. I want a Mustang or a Camaro, and I don’t want the government telling me to drive an econobox. I sure hope Waxman realizes that millions of people drive and enjoy sports cars and muscle cars.
Just a Yugo for you, ferrariman!
“Give the man the opportunity to demonstrate that we’re not going ‘hard left,’ or ‘off the cliff’,” Melancon said. “There’s no fears, but there’s some concerns.”
Yeah, we don’t want to change direction now. Let’s keep going over this cliff here instead of “lurching hard left” for fear there’s a cliff over there. Heh. /snark
I guess the entire presidential election and ‘change’ hasn’t quite sunk in yet.
If any hint of Left makes you keep going right forever then you’re bound to come to that cliff. Then what do you do?
Not recognizing reality is very bad. OTOH, seeing Righties cringing at the idea of Lefty leadership makes it clear they’re feeling the way I’ve felt for about 30 years with Crazy Right “leadership”.
Do they have to go off the cliff AND hit bottom before they realize we’re going the wrong way?
I love the way The Hill describes Waxman as ”liberal, aggressive and activist” - they haven’t quite figured out that a majority just voted that those are good things.
“Out with the old and in with the new!” is something the Blue Dogs & Republicans despise. Awwwwww, too bad.
In the art field, the Modern period ends about 1950. Art since then is called Contemporary. Do we want a modern Congress or a contemporary, 21st century, one?
I really wondered when Obama picked Emmanuel for his Chief of Staff. but the more I thought about it ( a hard right Blue dog in the white House????) I think now it was a strategic move as ol’ Rahm was gonna go after Pelosi’s seat. THAT would have been Baaaaaad.
Now we have a chance to see what Grandma will do with the House, without Rahm’s knife in her back. I have more faith in Pelosi than a lot of people do. Rahm started tripping her up as soon as she got elected to the House leadership, Remember her wanting Murtha and Rahm smirking behind her because he whipped Hoyer in there instead?
Rahm makes me want to take a bath every time I see (too often) a picture of him!
Keep your friends close, but your enemies closer? And I’ll have a Contemporary Congress, Thank you.
It would appear that there is another group of people that need to be reminded of the outcome of the election.
These DINO’s need to revisit the vote totals and what it means. We can no longer tell people what they want to hear. Con. Dingell was too content to keep the bad news from the D3 and not force them to change their approach to the future. CAFE, Emissions, safety, all things that Con. Waxman will remind the D3 about next year.
I think this is great move!!!
Either you are part of the problem or part of the solution. What do you think the Blue Dogs are part of?
If you want a Mustang or a Camaro, there will be lots of them on the market when gas creeps back up to $5. And I’m sure the Italians will be more than glad to sell you a nice muscle car. I hear they’ve been making real progress there. And Obama can’t tell them what to make…
Or you could get with the program and pick up a nice Tesla. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds isn’t fast enough? Buy a first-year Tesla and in 10 years, it’ll be worth more than a 67 Mustang or Camaro. And it’ll still be faster than anything else made in America.
Tesla has their issues, too. And I don’t have the $110,000 on hand to buy one anyways.
