Help me out here, because my right-wing logic interpolation machine is failing me.
Glenn Reynolds seems quite flustered today with his new headline:
MORE REPORTS OF MASSIVE VOTER FRAUD BY ACORN.
Oh my! Except there is no voter fraud. What they're talking about is a problem with registration, not voting. I guess when you're typing propaganda in a highly aroused state, little things like that are bound to slip.
Same old canard -- 2100 registration forms handed in by Acorn aren't valid. Now these are probably the ones Acorn submitted which they tagged as "suspicious," which they are required to do by law.
But I'm having trouble gaming this out. What is it exactly they think Acorn is up to? Instacracker:
ANOTHER UPDATE: Robert Mayer emails: "That post regarding ACORN was absolutely astounding to me. I know that there have been problems with voter fraud in America. It has existed since the ballot box. But what ACORN is doing, with 1.3 million voter registrations turned in nationwide, is akin to what I have seen in places like Belarus. All 1.3 million of those registrations should be considered suspect. If the voting process is allowed to become so derelict, then we don't deserve to be any better off than a third world despotism. And eventually, we won't be." Some people would like it that way.
What do they think Acorn is planning here? To send those 2100 people to the polls to vote a second time? Is that it?
The St. Petersberg Times today says that "Mickey Mouse tried to register to vote in Florida this summer. Orange County elections officials rejected his application, which was stamped with the logo of the nonprofit group ACORN."
If that was the plan, don't you think they'd pick a name that was, oh I don't know, a bit less likely to raise red flags than "Mickey Mouse?" Many of the registration forms flagged by ACORN were incomplete. If their intention was to stuff the ballot box on election day, don't you think they'd do a better job of dummying them up?
Adam Doster at Progressive Illinois:
[T]here's no evidence these imaginary people turn around and vote in November. Given Indiana's strict voter ID law, it would actually be next to impossible for anyone to cast a ballot under the name of a submarine sandwich chain or a dead person.
ACORN has so far registered 1.3 million new voters, mostly Democrats, enough to scare any respectable pencil-squeezing Republican. The numbers involved remind me of the signatures that were collected to recall Gray Davis in California in 2003:
Supporters of the recall turned in 1.65 million signatures, about 1.36 million of which -- about 82 percent -- were deemed valid, according to figures released by the secretary of state's office.
That's 300,000 signatures that couldn't be verified. Darryl Issa paid $1 per signature, or $1.65 million dollars to facilitate the recall. It's just what happens when you send people out onto the street and offer to pay them to get people to sign up -- it's factored in by reasonable business people as the "cost of doing business."
But conservatives rarely understand how things work. They don't take the time and don't have the minds. We're thus treated to a lot of smoldering innuendo, a bunch of supposedly damning facts, but what they think the ultimate Acorn conspiracy is never really comes together into a concrete plan. We're all just supposed to nod knowingly, assume that "where there's smoke there's fire," and repeat John McCain's talking points until told to do otherwise.

Here’s another one. The Ward Connelly-sponsored Initiative (in McCain’s home state of Arizona)
to end any State support of schools that allow clubs, groups or scholarships based upon ethnicity.
http://www.azcentral.com/news/.....llot2.html
“Secretary of State Jan Brewer said she disqualified Proposition 104, the “Arizona Civil Rights Initiative,” because its 194,961 valid signatures fell short of the 230,047 required for proposed amendments to the Arizona Constitution. Supporters had turned in just under 334,735 signatures.”
So lemme see only 194,961 of 334,735 signatures were actually valid!
That’s a 42% False signature rate! I wonder how many people involved in this massive effort of fraud were ever jailed or even fined.
I blame George Soros.
The Atlanta paper printed an editorial by (right-wing tool) Jim Wooten this morning, about the ACORN “voter fraud”. I immediately fired off a letter to the editor, using information I got right from Firedoglake’s pieces on ACORN. Just got a call — they are going to print it! Let’s hope some of the people who read the editorial will also read the letter.
Excellent! I read that drivel this morning, too. Can’t wait to read your letter.
All your points are quite correct, and almost obvious.
In part, what we are suffering through here, is the gullibility, incompetence and lack of expertise in TV news and local press.
They dont have reporters who actually cover elections and politics, so they dont understand the real story. They are too ready to run out and report the latest shiny object. They hear someone say this is voter fraud and they keep the cameras running.
they dont know enough to realize that registration is NOT voting and they dont follow the electoral process, so they dont know what elections officials do with and how they process voter registrations.
They also dont know the law that says ACORN and the REpubs and the DEMS MUST turn in all registrations. Otherwise, what would keep a gooper registrar at the local supermarket from just tearing up forms where DEM is checked.
ACORD has to turn these in. And, appropriately, they flag them.
I guess they think mickey mouse is actually going to show up in his three-finger gloves and ask to vote.
Bravo!
go Firedog go !!
Josh links ACORN story to USAtty scandal.

Jane, please don’t hurt yourself trying to imagine what they “think” It will harm you and steam will try to escape via the ears. I guess it has to be considered thinking even if it is from a brain that restricts heavy lifting.
does this indicate that they don’t have enough percentage points rigged on the vote machines to make up for the landslide?
Has this been reported here? (from Huffington Post)
McCain transition team leader Timmons lobbied the U.S. government for Saddam Hussein
There must be some guy out there whose name really is Mickey Mouse. Either his parents were stoned when it came time to fill out the birth certificate questionaire, or Mickey himself once felt the need for a new name and changed it. However he came to be named Mickey, I hope he gets to vote.
man, that is good stuff, I wonder how palin is going to respond when (yea, right) when a reporter referances that the next time she brings up ayers
Digg this now!
Why do John McCain and his right wing allies hate democracy?
Because they are authoritarians.
This has been another episode of simple As…
I guess McFeeble won’t be asking any Ayers questions tomorrow night!!:)
All that messy dissent hinders implementation of the agenda.
A musical op-ed about the McCain candidacy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn9j_J2HUuU.
We only need to worry if Harry Potter should show up seventeen times to vote.
Yes, thanks! and it’s all over the web! wow.
hey folks don’t forget about McCain’s bff Charlie Black, a dictator’s best friend.
Jane!
I’m so glad you’re tackling this. I’ve had steam coming out my ears, hearing all the over hyped faux-panic mode of the anti-democracy squad.
Breaking Buckley news. MSNBC says Chris Buckley has been fired for supporting USama Bin Laden Obama.
Steve Schmidt toady suggested that the Republicans are going for the “nuclear option”
The nightmare, of course, being thousands of Republican vote challengers threatening the right of registrants to vote, millions of people finding that their legal registrations have been voided by Republicans who want to cancel every registration undertaken by ACORN, and battles with the Secretary of State offices and courts that have already validated legal registrations…legal under the “American Votes” and “Motor Voters” laws.
Fantastic job! Kudos and Thanks!
Why do John McCain and his right wing allies hate democracy?
McCain: “If I were a dictator, which I’ve always aspired to be…”
He offered his resignation and they accepted it
you’re just plain adorable some times. ;->
mebbe the mcsameole will pick up your line a’ reasoning and use it Wednesday, heh.
dumya 1st, then this. conspiracy theory: launch.
voter registration fraud=voter fraud. You don’t have to actually vote to potentially commit “voter fraud”. Voter registration drives are generally rife with improprieties, some intentional, some unintentional.
Oxdown diary up on McCain official lobbied for Saddam Hussein story
oh they know zackly what they are doing. Any excuse possible to keep people from voting.. even pretending they are outraged and clueless.
seriously. that sounds like a promotion in the works. anyone think he was “happy” working with that crew.
quick. Obama. Hire Him! Then watch all the NRO “bighats” run for the Deepends aisle. Woo Hoo!
I find it interesting that these Republican nutcases really think that people
~who have registered “32 times at the same address” would be allowed to go to their precinct to vote more than once. Their name would be crossed off and they would not be allowed to vote again.
~who show up at the poll registered using the name of a ficticious animated cartoon character, or a sports superstar would not be asked for ID.
~ who have registered and changed addresses [note: people DO MOVE!] would not be purged from the rolls at all but the last address.
~ who have obtained a license (and thus established identity) at a DMV office and registered THERE, should be involved in fraud.
~ who are homeless, and have registered more than once at different shelters that they have moved to, would be allowed to vote at the earlier addresses. They are legally registered only at the final address, all earlier registrations are purged. But there is no “fraud” here any more than you or I would be committing fraud if we changed addresses. In fact, it’s a lot less likely that a homeless person would have the mobility to vote twice in places like San Francisco and San Diego on the same day. A wealthy Republican might be able to, however.
Part of the problem is that a lot of these zany lunatics are not pretending they just get whipped into a dogmatically held frenzy
So if Chris Buckley is forced to resign I wonder if the will compel Simmons, McKKKains transition chief, to resign for “pallin’ around with terrorists”.

How dare you bring facts and logic into the discussion. /s

if it warn’t fer bad luck
he’d have no luck atalll.
oh man, you are gonna LOVE this from waas;
man, you have GOT to start feeling sorry for mccain, how INEPT can a campaign get?
yeah.
does anyone else think Acorn might have been infiltrated by a few, um, plants and errant badboyz?
so-as to provide fodder for shock! absolute SHOCK! at the perfidididity permeating this supposedly charitable organization?
hmmmmm
Of course, the broadcast and cable/satellite TV media won’t spend a tenth as much time on McCain’s Saddam connections as they already have dutifully repeating the RNC’s ACORN garbage as unquestioned fact.
Palin raisin hell in Pennsylvania- a state where McBush is 12 points behind. How stupid is that?
I just love the way you framed this: What is their plan for world domination?
Seems like the whole thing is entirely explainable by how they recruit people to do the registrations. It’s piece-work, as I understand it. So the people they employ are motivated to turn in extra forms.
Thanks for drawing the distinction between registration forms (incorrectly filled out) and anyone actually trying to cast a fraudulent ballot.
Buckley on MSNBC now he is appalled at the vitriolic mail
omg. i’ve turned into a suspicious old hag!
I blame booshcheeenie. Charges pending.
ACORN is a subversive group headed by Bill Ayers (he is thought to be black) to force white folks into developing rhythm against their will.
ACORN rep on MSNBC today said they are absolutely NOT paid by the signature, but instead are paid $8/hour. They discipline, fire, and suggest for prosecution, in that order depending on the seriousness of the infraction, anyone they find who is not obeying the rules.
Would be fun if the Palin investigation catches on and floods the media for the last three weeks- mercifully keeping McBush from getting out his message (of the day).
Don’t point fingers backwards. Stop playing the blame game. Move along, nothing to see here. America’s crakerjack media is in a swoon about that Republican manufactured diversion of “voter fraud.” They don’t have the time to cover the McCain/Saddam connection.
can’t his dad step in and, um, control some of those ever-so-civilized, uppercrusted closet-bully pugs? seems like the least he could do.
meanwhile, i suspect young Buckley will do just fine and make the most of the hate-mail blizzard.
good on him! ;->
It is a federal crime to falsify voter registration forms. It will be interesting to find out if any of the falsified forms lead to prosecution.
What do you suppose the odds are?
His father died earlier this year.
If so, are they agents of the FBI infiltrating “terrorist cells” at ACORN that are trying to sabotage our elections by helping people vote?
Watch the media climb back on to their McPalin bandwagon as the economy subsides into the background for at least 3 weeks. NPR did a long piece on McPalin’s economic plans including a long piece of one of his speeches. For Obama’s plan, a brief synopsis by the “reporter”. National Propaganda Radio doing their bit to insure the status quo.
Didn’t you hear that the old Buckley sailor kicked the bucket about 6 months ago? Or were you referring to the spirit realm?
Maybe it is operation chaos Part II
my aim is never to be just plain… :~)
I wish Eric Glass would call me and ask me why I won’t donate to “Public Radio”.
Not everone’s on that bandwagon
new looseheadprop up over at the Mothership
The Ann Arbor NPR affiliate is going thru one of their pledge drives. They are saying that they will not interrupt some of the scheduled programing as they have in the past because they think that people are tired of the interuptions. What they don’t realize is that people are tired of their timid coverage of this criminal adminstration and their complicity in preserving status quo. I will not give a penny to NPR as long as Kookie Cokie, Mara Liasson and Scott Simon, to name a few, are on board.
Just as stupid as her doing a rally in California. Personally, I think they are putting her where she can do the least harm. Clue to the McShame crew, it ain’t working.
The one reason to push back hard on the ACORN bad voter reg forms noise NOW would be to seize the teaching moment — educate the MSM and the public at large about the various modes of actual vote prevention and vote stealing that really do exist, and that ACORN ain’t any of that. This primes the public and MSM to get them thinking and watchful about all that stuff come election day — should the Rs be planning some more than usually wanton/depraved measure of fuckery.
Thus does the master Obama-san deprive the rogue maverick amateur McCain of his attack’s advantage, and, further, fully returns the force of the attack back against the attacker. Amateur that he, McCain, is.
Even William F. Buckley was questioning the PNAC neocon types in his last few years…
McCain’s minions are sending her out to the Starbucks farthest away from them for coffee. She makes friends along the way.
You know Eric Glass knows what the hell they have done to Public radio. He is not a dumb guy. I would only be telling him what he already knows. What is pathetic is the widely-held impression that NPR is a liberal bastion. It was completely hollowed out by Republicans about 8 years ago.
Mickey Mouse is American. He’s a bit old but should be allowed to vote at least once.
They found the voter fraud here! OMG! This explains it all!
Yeah it sure would be an easy ratfuck, wouldn’t it.
despicable, sad, but nevertheless, fodder for coming back at Mcsame campain in public, if any evidence exists to link them.
thank you for letting me know. i haven’t kept up with “regular” news for awhile. sad.
true indeed. i just didn’t know the connection.
Sounds as if his son probably already has, and definitely is on track, to have made his dad proud.
