The National Wildlife Campaign asks the question in a hard-hitting ad that is currently running in Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Northern Virginia. It will expand to Colorado and Missouri in advance of Thursday's debate.
Its success ($600,000 raised since its release) should be a signal to the often faint-of-heart environmental outfits: time to take the gloves off.

Wow. Saw that ad weeks ago but didn’t realize it was actually running. Fantastic.
We already have a Vice President who champions such savagery. Cheney’s brutal and inhumane canned hunts are cowardly and nothing like real hunting. But, no, we don’t want another Vice President who champions such savagery.
But we have actual footage of the savagery on the airwaves, so that might help a little in fighting back against it. Glad the ad is up and running.
Love the smiley face at the end. I can’t look at her now without thinking of this ad.
Was that Grampa McCain flying the plane ?
I thought he was too old to fly.
She’s a better shot.
OT - the senate is back from break but has not begun debate on the
selloutbailout yet.You know, when McCain first chose her, my lib mother called me to find out what “we” knew about her. At that point, not much, but what I told her was that she was a RW fundie who championed shooting the arctic wolves from planes. I won’t tell you the EXACT term she used - Mother is no shrinking violet and I studied swearing at her knee, but I CAN tell you that it starts with “C” and her running mate favors it. As she said, “They need to carpet bomb the airwaves with that - it is ALL they will need.” Nice to see they finally took mom’s advise…
(This is in case selise pops in) I left you a reply in the McCain Rolling Stone post about O’s community organizing (with links to articles) that may give you more insight to what he was doing and how he was doing it.
speaking of ads, i saw in an e-mail from Barack one about McCain and the gambling ondustry. Is that just for internet? Thought it was great and wish it got some wide play. BTW, I think Palin will be OK tonight. She’ll have time to fill with talking points and not have to produce answers as quickly as in an interview. she can start off an answer with a basic talking point and then after she gets settled and had a chance to think and formulate an answer, seque into a talking point. And I think she’ll have an opportunity to attack which she couldn’t do to Cherlie or katie. Attacking suits her well, I think. Don’t write her off, peoples.
Cancel the debate:
That really is the excuse they will use should the public decide that Palin lost (or if she does REALLY poorly) in the debate. It is Ifill’s fault for being “in the pocket” of Obama.
thanks! will check them in a bit, appreciate it.
right now clinton is speaking from the senate floor in support of the sellout/bailout - although the legislation has not yet been introduced (i think).
live on cspan2.
any excuse.
Don’t think I have the stomach to watch.
The current VP and POTUS revel in torturing and illegal brutal killing of human beings–what could be more savage?
And yes, what/how you treat animals and nature speak volumes of the kind of person you are!
I guess that if you hide behind being a “born again” Christian, anything that you do, no matter how vicious or inhumane or uncompassionate, is perfectly OK. Why does anyone think that she would be any kinder to people not as well connected as she is?
OT… my friend writes:
Not so long ago, we U.S. taxpayers were burdened with the expense of paying off the savings and loan fall out at the cost of thousands of dollars for each woman, man and child in this country. Since it was an outright hand out, we rewarded the scoundrels who operated these ill-fated S&Ls for their malfeasance and failure. A certain senator from Arizona received a congressional censure around that time for his involvement. Did that whooping bail out cost curtail politicians from viewing the public’s pocket as the solution for every bad investment or risky business practice? To the contrary, that was just the beginning.
Then came the multi-million dollar bail out of the airlines after 9/ll—rewarding them for not implementing sensible security measures prior to the mass murder of 3000 people. The cost of implementing these measures were, of course, passed off to the taxpayers. To further protect United and American Airlines, part of the compensation package accepted by many of the victims and their families contained a waiver of their right to sue the airlines for their negligence. To make the public think that something was actually being done to prevent another massive terrorist attack, the creation of Homeland Security represented the biggest increase in government and government spending in the history of this country. After seven years of ever increasing security expenses, is anyone raising issues about whether the expenditure is justified or whether we’re actually safer? There are a lot of private contractors getting very rich from their DHS contracts.
Of more recent vintage, we’re bailing out the insurance industry and now Wall St. What’s next? Each bail out is accompanied by the same level of hysteria over the immediate and long-term catastrophic impact. The population of this country, until now, rumbled a little and then let things go, picking up the bill instead of questioning whether a mega infusion of taxpayer dollars represented the best solution. At least this one seems to be waking our apathetic public out of its lethargy. Michael Moore neglects to mention that a brand new government agency will be established to oversee the implementation of the bail out which seems to work as follows: the taxpayers assume a ton of bad debt and there’s no enforcement against those who allowed for these risky investments.
Here I am fretting about being able to afford my health insurance and other living expenses when I retire after 2012 now that my 40l(k) has been depleted—and I still have a defined pension!!! What a sucker!!!! My dad’s made a firm decision to avail himself of his right to dual citizenship and move to Norway depending on what happens on November 4. As of this moment, I think I’m joining him.
This savage woman has rationalized the killing of wolves because of moose and other hooved animal predation, allegedly to leave more “meat” for Alaska hunters. I’d like to see the real biological data on this, since wolves tend to prey on the weak and ultimately strengthen the gene pool (towards survival) of animals they prey on.
In other words, are Alaska hunters in any real “danger” of not having enough moosemeat to eat due to wolf predation? Nothing like science to challenge a fundie.
I would love to see the add include;
“she made believe this was for the safety of moose, but when the science informed her it did nothing to increase moose population she ignored those facts”
or something along those lines in a profalactic answer to her exuse
quid pro quo - isn’t Tom Brokaw - debate moderator -the oficial NBC liason to the McCain campaign?
My husband started the ad and I had to close my eyes and cover my ears and cry, “turn it off, turn it off”. She is barbaric.
BTW, what has happened to the audio of her laughing at the disgusting Limbaugh-like cretin who was calling her past opponent a “cancer”? Has that been discretited as being faked, or was it indeed a real recording? I’m not usually surprised by their ilk, but having recently lost my brother, sister and mom to cancer, that bothered me deeply and think it would bother others as well.
“The Greatest Generation”
Oh now, biological data is for wimps.
They won’t run on guns and butter. They’ll run on guns and bait.
quid pro quo - not by a long shot. Gwen Ifill is Condi’s shopping buddy. I quit listening to NPR because of Ifill’s warmongering and her constant support of right wing viewpoints and Republican talking points. Ifill, Condi and Juan Williams - all Uncle Toms.
Ifill is Black, but she is not a liberal by any stretch of the imagination. Brokaw is an out Republican. Where is there a tradeoff? You have two Republican moderators for the next two debates.
I guess we should amend the title: “Do we want ANOTHER Vice President….” yadda yadda.
That would make a good diary on Oxdown.
Minnesota would be a good place to run this ad also. There’s a ballot initiative for funding for arts and outdoors coming up on the Minnesota ballot in November. A perfect convergence.
Lost my cocker spaniel on Monday to cancer, so for me, this is a two-fer.
I have a pretty good take on something sarah said in interview;
sarah thinks homosexuality is a choice, someone should let her know she is saying she made a choice to be heterosexual, that means she considered being gay.
if she didn’t consider being gay then she didn’t make any choice at all
man, her face would explode
I’m so sorry to hear that news. They give us so much and ask for so little. I know you gave it everything you could, take that with you.
Hugs, Prarie.
Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. ((PS))
Aw, I just looked at the pic of you and Marley. He looked so much like raven. I love them all but blackie cockers have a special place.
I am so sorry to hear about your sweet puppy. My Airedale is 15 and I know that we will face something similar to your sadness sooner than we would like. I hope you had many happy years together and have many happy memories to help you as you heal.
Three Questions for Sister Sarah at Oxdown.
I didn’t realize you were in Fargo. My x’s family was from Fergus Falls and I flew in there one August when the sunflowers were in full bloom. Prarie Sunshine indeed.
Oh, geeze. This is worse than Bill Frist killing cats.
thanks. I thought I was the only one who thought Ifill was a mole for bushco.
(((Prairie Sunshine))) There are no words.
Maybe, just maybe, these wolves have their own WMD and Palin wants to kill them before they kill us.
for dog lovers, tons of fun

I was wondering if this story was ever going to get any coverage. When I heard that McCain picked Palin, this was the first thing that came to my mind-she’s the one who advocates aerial gunning of wolves and bears in her state and offers a bounty for the forelegs of wolves. As for why she advocates this barbaric practice, I’m guessing it’s to save the moose and other game for the hunters who go to Alaska and spend big bucks to hunt; after all, she’s a moose hunter too. Although anyone who advocates hunting from an airplane can’t really call themselves a hunter, in my opinion. This ad makes me want to cry, and hopefully it will open people’s eyes and cause them to reconsider voting for these 2 idiots.
I could not agree more!! Her environmental “policies” are downright scary!
Thanks Jane.
digg
she makes believe it is to protect the moose industry but science say the wolves do not contribute to a decline in moose population
Exactly, which is why I’m speculating that the real reason is for, what else, money. She is a Republican, after all-that’s all that matters to them.
((((Prairie Sunshine)))) so very sorry
(((PS))) I lost my lab four years ago and I still miss her. They are true family members.
It’s not even just the wolves, which is a terrible horror to me, but it’s also the fact that she is furthering the extinction of polar bears, who are already endangered due to global climate change. Sarah Palin is not good for the natural world.
yep. so much for respect for life.
i’m crossing my fingers that she will offer to shoot the bears on wall street in the debate. please! that is my prayer.
Thanks, guys. We were blessed with Marley for just 10 days shy of nine years. All creatures great and small deserve better than what the McPaliniacs offer.
At least Giuliani’s wife sedated the dogs she killed. Palin offers bounties for the right legs of the wolves that have been hunted down to exhaustion and are cowering in fear of the hunter in the plane or helicopter.
Sickness…mental sickness!
