A refreshing change of pace from the kid gloves with which Joe is usually treated:
Let's dispose of Senator Lieberman first, because the fact of the matter is what he said is not true and he knows it is not true, so it's kind of the continued moral degeneration of Joe Lieberman on display for the entire country to watch.
Last night, Lieberman said that Obama voted "to cut off funding for our American troops on the battlefield."
From the Washington Post Fact Checker notes this morning:
If, by voting against funding for a strategy he opposed, Obama voted to "cut off funding for the troops," then so did almost every Republican in the Senate -- and Lieberman himself -- when they voted against a $124-billion appropriations bill on April 26, 2007, that would have funded operations in Iraq and Afghanistan but also required Bush to begin withdrawing troops from Iraq. (McCain missed the vote on that bill, which passed 51-46 and was subsequently vetoed by Bush.)
I also heard Lieberman refer to himself last night as a Democrat at least 7 or 8 times, no doubt to work my last nerve. Fact Checker does not note that after Lieberman got his ass kicked in the 2006 primary by Ned Lamont, he withdrew from the party and ran as a candidate from the Connecticut for Lieberman Party.
Some of us were actually rooting for Joe on the ticket just so the Dem oppo shops would have to admit that he hasn't, in fact, been with us on everything but the war (the candidate for President of the United States being a somewhat notable exception), and surrogates would have to go on the offensive.
It was still satisfying to see him crestfallen last night. Now the base of two parties have told him to piss off.

Joe Lieberman has no shame and that’s a fact!
And Hi Jane!!!
I’ve never seen Anita Dunn before, but she rocks.
The best thing about this: She’s not afraid to attack him at his perceived strength, his alleged moral authority.
Attack the strength, not the weakness.
I thought Joe was saying how the Democats used to be for a strong foreign policy etc etc. Like he was implying that the party had left him just like Reagen did.
But now he is trying to say he is a Dem? Did Joe just now read the writing on the wall? Does Joe want back in?
Lets Cry Havoc and let loose the Dogs of War on his sorry Ass!
The obvious question is when–Lord, please when–will Joe be stripped of his Senate seats and the charade finally brought to a close. It isn’t as if his supposed 51st vote has been of any use to the Harry Reid Hippocratic Senate (first, do
no harmnothing)That just shows that you are that much stronger which right now we are and we should act that way. But normally that is not such a good idea, but Bush at 30% approval its long over due.
Joe lost any and all moral authority when he ran as an “independent”. Power is his thing pure and simple and he has prostitued himself to McCain and the rest of the SOB’s.
That interview was another example of things changing in MSM interview approaches. In the one with Campbell Brown and Brownose flak for McCain interview, Brown kept stepping on his lines in order to get him to cool his rhetoric and just answer the actual question that she was asking.
In this interview Andrea Mitchell almost interrupted once, but then chose to just let the lady speak. Not bad.
Gack, the poltergeists are muckin’ with comments again.
May the ghost of Hubert Humphrey smack this guy around today:
L’il Joey Lie-bee…
Quisling or Goldschlag…you decide….
Joe’s speech wasn’t completely useless.
For example, I was having trouble getting to sleep last night, and the steady drone of his mushmouth voice going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on was like the pitter patter of rain on the roof, sending me off to restful sleep that was only punctuated by nightmares involving his wife’s humiliated face.
And man, she DID look humiliated to be there. You have to wonder what was going through her head. Is she as evil as her husband?
Should we start referring to him as Joe “Rent-Boy” Lieberman? Better run it by the legal department first, don’t want to start catching flak from the rent-boys union.
couldn’t bear to actually watch the speeches last night, buy MSNBC just showed brief clips of Fred, Joe, and Georgie.
Why did they all look orange?
Is that a terror-status alert thing?
P.S. Noron says FBI has arrested a guy who had three molotov cocktails. This seems to be *much* more important than the white guys with sniper rifles in Denver, of course.
Just got around to watching the video, I hope we get to see a lot more of Anita Dunn in the campaign.
Old Holy Joe can’t be quite as bad as all that, after all Barack Obama chose him to be his mentor in the Senate in 2005! He must have some redeeming features. And in 2006, Barack encouraged Connecticut Democrats to have the good sense to return Joe to the Senate, and they did (kind of.)
http://www.boston.com/news/loc.....lieberman/
He was after all the 2000 Vice Presidential Candidate, as well, so Al Gore must have seen something noble in him as well!
Last night’s RNC drinking game was a shot (turned sip) every time someone uttered MAVERICK and MY FRIENDS. Little did we know on the rules committee that Caribou Barbie is also a MAVERICK and Thompson AND Lieberman have adopted the MY FREINDS salutation! ::::::Ouch, don’t talk so loud:::::::
I wouldn’t trust Lieberman with a lump of coal.
He needs to have his chairs jerked out from under him and left to wander the political wilderness until he falls over dead.
I can’t even articulate the disgust I have .
Help!!! this site is holding me hostage, what’s up with this site??
Thanks Jane, keep after that truth!!
Hi Jane and lurking mods,
I tried to post a comment, and got this instead:
Warning: mysql_affected_rows(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL-Link resource in /var/www/firedoglake.com/wp-content/db.php on line 434
It repeated that message five times, then asked the website admins to look into it.
The comment’s lost now.
I saw that exchange, and I had to admit, I loved every minute of it. That lady was good, and the only surprising thing to me is that Andrea Mitchell didn’t stop her from going that far on her dime.
To me, that puts the cart before the horse. Lieberman lost the primary because he lost his moral authority, at least with the people who were paying attention. Running as an independent was just another symptom of his amorality.
And in 2006, Barack encouraged Connecticut Democrats to have the good sense to return Joe to the Senate, and they did (kind of.)
A favor which Joe took before graciously stabbing Obama in the back last night.
Watta guy, that Joe !
With friends like these, who needs
enemiesJoe?Remember, Holy Joe paid his $250,000.00 entrance fee, last week, to caucus with Democrats and continued Chairmanship, to your friend and certainly mine, Harry Reid.
“moral degeneration”
Ouch. I like it.
worse
Ditto!
My favorite lie in Holy Joe’s speech was the part where he was listing all of the achievements due to Clinton’s wonderful bipartisan teaming up with Republicans, which culminated in “and balancing the budget”.
Of course, every single Republican, including McCain, voted against Clinton’s 1993 budget package, which was the bedrock upon which the balanced budget was gradually erected. They all, including “don’t know much about” McCain, insisted it would destroy the economy.
Sam Stein over at HuffPo has another take

There’s a fee? Remember the good old days when people just brought bags of money to their elected officials so that they’d do what we wanted? Now that’s called bribery, so they do stuff like this.
P.S. That little MySQL problem isn’t fixed yet.
** continued moral degeneration of Joe Lieberman **
Me likey. Let’s use this. Often.
Since I didn’t watch the Lying Senator from Connecticut’s speech last night - were there any crowd shots?
Was the crowd maybe grimacing a little bit as the obviously dis-loyal LIE-ber-Man went full gonzo turncoat?
Trying one more comment…
(sorry if anyone else but me is seeing my comments…)
This is a test post without someone name that’s starts with an M.
See if this comes through.
Some firepups reported seeing delegates leaving the hall as he reached the podium. Whether from the stench or the screech, one cannot say.

And I just ate lunch…
COURIC: Some, even Republicans seem surprised that Senator McCain picked a running mate who opposes abortion even in– in the cases of rape and incest and believes creationism should be taught in schools. And I’m just curious, do you believe–or do you agree with that?
MCCAIN: What I agree with is the fact that she is a social conservative, she is a reform minded woman, she is someone that will shake the– the– Washington up, which is exactly what we wanna do. We differ on many issues, we differ with– across the board with people. We don’t have to agree on every issue.
COURIC: Abortion has suddenly become, again, a hot button issue, because of her–
MCCAIN: I think to you all it has–
COURIC: Well, I think probably, at least, it’s reported that a lot of people are now talking about this. And I– where do you stand on abortion?
MCCAIN: I’m pro-life, I’m on the record as being pro-life, like my husband.
COURIC: So, do you oppose it even in the cases of rape and incest?
MCCAIN: No.
COURIC: No? So, that’s where you two differ–
MCCAIN: Uh-huh (AFFIRM).
That was Cindy, not John, my bad.
Is Sarah Palin history yet?
And we have Gore and his cronies, Jim Johnson etc., to thank for the modern say Lieberman. Too bad Lieberman did not get the chance to debate Biden, instead of talking to Cheney in a so called debate,
This came in an e-mail from a friend. It was sent by an individual in Alaska:
I saw it too, and had the same reaction.
It seems Mrs. Greenspan has changed her ways of late. I think
she has finally seen through all the wingtard BS and is coming around.
Obama’s people ought to put Dunn out there 24/7.
Ever notice that the Repubs never say they are against “abortion”…they just say they are for pro-life???
Cindy McCain never utters the word “abortion”, and I can’t remember when a Puke has actually used the word. They are usually asked, “Do you think abortion should be banned, blah, blah, blah”, and they say, “I’m pro-life”….or “Do you think Roe vs Wade should be overturned?”…”Yes, I’m pro-life”.
Someone should drill down on them about this. You know that Republicans have had abortions…it can’t just be Dems that get abortions…I’d like to see a real statistic on this.
Also, the question should be…”are you pro-choice…Do you believe a person should have the say so of what goes on with their own body?”, i.e., start framing pro-choice as not “for abortion”….e.g., “Should a man have the right to have a vasectomy, because he doesn’t want more children? Does he have the right, or should the government tell him what to do with his body?…then they can’t say…”I’m Pro-life”.
Again, this matter needs to be re-clarified.
Listening to Joe Lieberman makes my teeth itch. So we watched Ice Road Truckers and ate popcorn.
Good on Anita Dunn!
Susan at Kiss My Big Blue Butt http://www.kissmybigbluebutt.com/ has the link to the Alaska Democrats 2006 oppo research on Palin. Wonder if any of McLame’s little Brownies went that deep?
“Noble” is not the word I’d use. I think the choice of Lieberman was a classic work of ticket-balancing. IIRC, Lieberman polled well among Independents and traditional Democratic groups that Gore was not polling well with, especially in certain swing states. IIRC, “noble” had nothing to do with it.
Bob in HI
bye bye joezoe tortureman
thank goddess I don’t have to see your sorry ass until you announce your noble decision to not seek reelection (be sure to act like you had a chance of being elected again when you do that, okay)
shit flows downhill, and you ain’t at the bottom yet, you slimy turd
We can be a little thankful that Lieberman’s not the incumbent VP running for President as the Democratic nominee.
earth to techies
earth to techies
need to give some gas to the toobz
Just FYI, Andrea Mitchell does not appear on CNN. She appears on MSNBC and perhaps other NBC related channels, but not on CNN.
I am shocked. Anita Dunn rocks in this clip. Such words of ringing truth about Joe Lieberman coming from a Democratic campaign wonk! Who would’ve thunk it?
thanks for posting this exchange … i love to see the Obama camp smack down lies offered by the Republican Machine (even if from an “Independent” cog).
[in the interest of factcheck.org, andrea mitchell does not work for CNN. (-:]
Unfortunately, there are millions of voters like these. They are not necessarily stupid; they just don’t understand the consequences. They live in a bubble. Frankly, most Americans — even Firepups, to a certain extent– live in bubbles.
Sorry, I’m slipping in and out of ability to finish this thought due to being at work, so I’ll just leave it there.
Bob in HI
Thank you for that comment, Badwater. It is just the silver lining I hadn’t seen–and that I really need what with all the clouds, especially the large one, dark with pepper spray that is hanging over the twin cities.
Thanks for catching this Jane. It gave me a much-needed boost today to see a Dem tell the truth–vigorously and unabashedly.
Good thing you didn’t use the word “love” in your drinking game; you wouldn’t be typing today.
Joe Lieberman is a bad man.
It’s empirical.
Has this been posted? from the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman also came under Gibbs’ fire for alleging that Obama had a record of not working across party lines, citing several examples, including legislation aimed at banning no-bid contracts after natural disasters.
“Do the American people a genuine favor–when you look in the camera and the little red light goes on, tell the truth,” he lectured Lieberman.
http://www.startribune.com/pol.....3iUiacyKUU
Heard about 5 min. of Holy Joe’s speech on drive home last nite. I LOOOVED when he first lauded McSame Palin as politicians who “will do what Americans elect them to,” then less than 90 seconds later praised McSame for “going against public opinion” in supporting endless war in Iraq!!
Are they insane or just vicious? After thinking about it, I’ve concluded probably both.
Hilarious!
