I understand Bush is probably focused on his "legacy." But really, the guy screws up everything he touches. Don't those people have enough to worry about?
Meanwhile, the McCain campaign sees Gustav as one big rebranding opportunity and has canceled the first evening of the convention while McCain flies down to help get a photo-op. (Of course McCain voted against relief for Katrina victims, reconstruction and catastrophic insurance.)
Damn shame that all the victims are responsible for evacuating themselves, and nobody will be housed in the Superdome...think of all the lost jumbotron opportunities.

Sorry for an off topic Zed! But yesterday I saw a photo of one of the search warrants to one or more of the raids. I can’t recall where I found it. Do you, Jane, or anyone else have that link available? Thanks.
Never mind, I found it.

If he goes to the RNC, what causes are they going to say he championed? War? Economic despair? Trampling the Constitution? Torture? Wow! What a legacy!
The thing is they’d have to say the same about McCrazy.
Did the press ever say how many people actually showed up for McCain’s announcement? I heard they were hoping for 15k, but struggling to get 10k tickets distributed (no one wanted them). Getting 15k would’ve been 5x more than had attended any of his prior events!
Contrast that with the 80k that Obama had with many turned away…
I don’t think I ever saw it, Kitt.
Kelly O’Donnel just reporting that Gustav is good for McCain.
I have truly been surprised at how open and honest the McCain camp is regarding their intention to use the disaster area as a campaign prop for McSames acceptance speech.
This has to be the most offensive move I can think of, and if Obama doesn’t point that out… …loudly…
They announced hours ago he wasn’t going, what’s with the “may not”?
I mean “may skip”. Meanwhile McCain and what’s-her-face are in Mississippi thanking the redneck governors foe their action as if his phony ass is in charge.
Gustav’s victims already have one disaster to endure. Please don’t force them to look over their shoulders the other way for Hurricane’s George and Michael.
Is the implication that the first night has to be cancelled because McC can’t be there….aren’t there other agenda items? Is travel that hampered? I am trying to understand the cancellation….lack of interest? Anyone know?
ST. PAUL, MINN. — The Republican National Convention’s entire Monday night program, including an address by President Bush, apparently will be canceled as national attention focuses on Hurricane Gustav, House Minority Leader John Boehner said today.
”It is doubtful that there will be any kind of program tomorrow night” when the four-day convention was scheduled to commence, he told reporters. ”The convention is going to be handled on a day-to-day basis.”
Boehner, of Ohio, the top Republican in the House, said the convention is concerned about potential victims of the storm, ”and the best way we ho
McCrazy speaking live on MSNBC to the RNC right now. He thinks he’s president at the moment. Just ignore him. He’ll find out later on he’s not and also that today is not Thursday!
I think you have this backwards Jane.
It’s “Bush to skip RNC to help McCain. McCain to fly to the coast to try out his new trollop.
Geez, did he say “Thursday”??
I wonder if he can say “Hanna”….
McCain better keep Sarah close by. McCain’s just a Senator, but she’s the one with all the nexessary executive experience needed to be President. Honestly, why isn’t she the one running for President?
He gets very confused sometimes. Just ignore him! Wait until he finds out tomorrow is Monday! Oh gawd. Can you say ‘mental confusion’?
McSame on MSNBC
Yo McSame, where’s the birthday cake?
RNC chairman live on MSNBC now
“taking off my political hat”
He knows he will be. The Dibold machines have already been reprogrammed.
convention is going to proceed with its necessary duties
Did you guys hear Cindypoo repeat the Puke talking point this morning that Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is the closest state to Russia…
They’kk cancel the convention opening just to nake political points.
ON FAITH and newsweek is taking on Ann Coulter
http://newsweek.washingtonpost.....lling.html
It’s nice to see someone call her on her silliness.
Rick Davis McSame campaign manager
thanks the RNC for cooperation
we remain deeply concerned
hurricanes unpredictable duh
we are looking at the convention situation because of the storms
“there’s no pattern to how we will react to this”
Convention begins tomorrow “in abbreviated fashion”
They’ll cancel the convention opening just to make political points.
Sorry about that: If I could spell, I’d be dangerous.
The Republican mantra: never tell the truth when a lie will do
Someone needs another war to learn some geography, Canada is the closest state( actually bordering) Alaska.
Yup, but I finally figured out why Grandpa McCain picked Palin, she’s a GRANDMA!
Where is Grannie BTW no photo opp for her?
Raven, Jane should follow Larry and other Senators around Monday night while they are trying to find some fun. She might get some interesting photos. Well, maybe not Larry because we know where he gets his fun.
no roll call tomorrow
everything is optional after the 5:30 session tomorrow
we will fly Louisiana delegates to their homes
Gulf Briefing Committee–comprises the Repub chairs of the states affected in the Gulf…when did disaster response become a political party function?
Funny about that…this morning, I heard at least 2 Repubs say that there is a very good chance that something is gonna come out that “we” don’t know about Palin…
Ahem.
might get her head busted open too
Did you guys hear Cindypoo repeat the Puke talking point this morning that Palin has foreign policy experience because Alaska is the closest state to Russia…
good christ. If this is the best they can come up with, well - good.
Ludicrous, but good.
the hurricanes could wreak havoc with the VP nomination, should be interesting to watch
convention has to have a quorum on the floor to make the nomination
There are 2 more right behind Hanna…
The RNC is very worried about the following happening again…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLRy_H-6t2c
Johnny McTeleprompterPalin will show up wearing a tool belt on Monday and when asked what is the first thing he’s going to rebuild, he’ll say, “Porches. They’re really important in rebuilding to keep the economy going”.
Aha!!
McCain campaign manager pledges no political rhetoric at convention!!!???
She’s busy using that vast executive experience (that qualifies her above all but McCain to be Preznit) to executize the Republics’ response to the hurricane.
No Russian attacks on the US while she’s been Governor. What a record!
“…when did disaster response become a political party function?”
Bingo! But Johnny has nothing to run on except, “I LOVE GEORGE BUSH!”, so he has to take advantage of stuff like this to keep the liberals off his back. See?
Where is George Bush? Oh that’s right! As pointed out above, Diebold has already chosen George McCain to be the president, so ole Georgie is allowing his Twin Georgie to do what he should be doing.
I’m getting gibberish, is FDL having a hiccup?

Guess when Barack Obama will make a comment about Hurricane Gustov? After the hurricane does it’s damage and after John McCrazy and his buddies are caught eating at a fancy restaurant while Americans are drowning…again…to point out how much the republics love our citizens.
Of course, neither of the candidates should be involved in any of this. Period.
Republicans only consider it “foreign” policy if there is an opportunity for them (the GOP) to start a war. Canada isn’t currently on the list but give it time…
I thought we were all Georgians now?
Newsweek on McCain’s votes against investigating Katrina failures:
There’s lots at the link, including footnotes with the specific bill/amendment vote numbers.
Only Republics are allowed to use disasters as political events. The talking heads are already busy explaining how wonderful and correct it is.
MSNBC: preznit boosh will skip the convention this week to strategerize the response to the hurricanes
That must have been the Senate investigation by Sen. Susan Collins of Maine who said she was satisfied with the White House saying they did everything they could. Spit.
Has the straight jibberish express been outfitted with flotation devices?
Will it have a 3 day supply of sprinkly donuts in case they are stranded or sumpthin.
1,751 DAYZ AND THE KILLIN’ GOEZ ON AND ON AND…
Citizen Hamsher and the Firepup Freedom Fighters:
So Crazy John McCain and the fascist thugs are lookin’ for a place ta hide…sure, New Orleans is a great spot now, bring the whole family and remind us all of Katrina and the cowardly politics of fascist cronyism. In the meantime, the frightened bastards are givin’ us the entire field in St Paul with national media all geared up with no place ta go!!
So let’s put 50,000 people in the streets of St. Paul in a march on the Excel Center…show solidarity with the people of the Gulf Coast and keep the bastards scurryin’ around lookin for a safe place ta hide. If we ken get 50,000 folks out tomorrow the Republican Convention will be effectively over!
KEEP THE FAITH AND PASS THE FUCKIN’ AMMUNITION…SEE YOU IN ST. PAUL!!!
they could ship down the caviar and chamagne from Minnesota to use as disaster relief…

It happens sometimes. Just go with the flow.
If Bush, as President, isn’t going to LA, in order to not impede the work, what business does McCain have there?
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/wea.....index.html
He said he would not go to Louisiana because he did not want to impede the work of emergency officials.
Keeping all the arugula for themselves?
More on McCain and Katrina, via Cotton Mouth blog (on “Life, Politics, and Mississippi”) from last May:
There’s more there, too, including references to specific bills that McCain opposed.
No Russian attacks on the US while she’s been Governor. What a record!
Maintaining Alaska’s undefeated record against all enemies, foreign, domestic, and meteorological.
Damn, she’s good.
Is J McShame going to emulate the MSM reporters and act like a human dipstick?
Rover to him it’ll help him look Presidential. Unlike his running mate, he lacks executive experience so he needs all the help he can get.
Boy are they in for a surprise:
1. Georgia is directly on Russia’s border
2. Alaska is a day away from Russia, Maine, on the other hand,is only about 9 hours away.
It would appear that the Rethugs do not want him anywhere near them when another hurricane hits NO.
But then the Iraq/Pakistan border could get tense
and Iran could increase its aid to the Sunnis…
Uh oh. Sarah Palin’s Wikipedia entry is being changed by what appears to be John McCain people:
http://keating5.wordpress.com/.....-original/
If true, more evidence as to why Palin named her son “Trig” because her life is a trigonometry of conspiracies! My, my, my, what a triangle she’s weaved for herself and for George McCain’s run for the presidency.
And we never talk bad about them either. *pointing to the sky* The airspace is close. Eeek. LOL
I wonder what RG Joe will do. Certainly no legitimate reason for him to attend the “nonpolitical” Convention. On the other hand, he may parachute into New Orleans to exercise his committee’s nonoversight responsibilities over the boosh administration’s nonresponse to the hurricanes…
indubyatably, indubyatably (indubitably, indubitably)
McDull-u-be must have had his astigmatism on that day or was looking at the map in the house of mirrors.
You know, if they sent half the cops and helicopters they have guarding the RNC from vegan potluckers down to New Orleans to help sandbag, that would do a lot more good than yet another McBush photo op.
Absolutely true, but you are forgetting the 12 commandment. Republicans do not do good. Period.
If the rethugs are not going to have to sit around listening to Gawd awful speeches all day they are apt to be all over. Bet there will be loads of them at the mall of America
Which makes going to the mall seem even more horrific than usual.
FDL Book Salon Welcomes Michael Waldman And “A Return To Common Sense” upstairs at the Mothership!
all together now….
when the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.
silliest, most bass akwards excuse i ever heard for escaping the certainty of booing and head-counting on opening day of a wretched, ill-conceived convention.
i might just watch a bit. or not… might wax the floors or do laundry, or just wallow in the tomato patch. Summer tomatoes. YUM!
Good summer idea: even if you don’t have a veg. garden, go find a local farmers’ market. the corn, the tomatoes….
such thoughts make me feel embarrassed and guilty.
Please please, may Gustav and succeeding storms spare all the good folks in their path. Those people have suffered way too much already.
Bush is telling us how much he has done, food sent, all prepared…also showing about he shots from the last storm, with Brownie and W on the plane. Slow learner? Yep.
Does he lie? Or just forget?
