The latest Rasmussen Report says that voters view Palin favorably by a 53/26 margin, but there appears to be a gender gap, and probably not in the direction that the McCain campaign had been hoping. Nate Silver:
These numbers pretty much speak for themselves, but men have a favorable impression of Palin by a 35-point margin, whereas women have a favorable impression of her by an 18-point margin. Conversely, by a 23-point margin, women do not think Palin is ready to be President, whereas Palin lost this question among men by a considerably smaller 6-point margin.
Nate thinks this may be because men tend to be more conservative than women, and Palin is just to the right of Atilla the Hun. Based on nothing but a gut hunch, I have to wonder if women don't view the whole Alaska beauty queen routine a bit more skeptically -- I sometimes think I'm looking at outtakes from some Cohen brothers movie.
Add to that the fact that Palin was greeted with a chorus of boos when she praised Hillary Clinton at a rally. If McCain chose her expressly to snatch up the PUMA vote, it could present an ugly weld spot within a party grounded in 16 years of institutional Clinton hatred.

My question is about the nanny. Though she said being a VP might be boring after being governor. But a new baby with Downs syndrome and 4 other kids. I am aghast that all we know about her financially is that she own three houses? What is her net worth? When will she release her tax returns, etc. How many times is her passport stamped?
What is her state’s current foreign policy toward Russia, I am sure they have since the Ruskies are only a few miles across the strait.

To back this, I attended the Dublin, Ohio Obama event yesterday. It was a “Wow!” event of over 20,000 Obama-Biden supporters. Sent Marcy an email with details you might enjoy reading.
Stood by an Ohio Mayor who was with his son and wife. The son had just returned from Iraq. The conversation was clear on the issues from both the Mayor and his son. His wife and I talked about Palin. We agreed that we felt she was an insulting choice for voters and irresponsible choice as VP.
A group of former Hillary supporters overheard us and chimed in the conversation with similar concerns and equal frustration with the transparent “gaming” of the choice. All agreed it was quite irresponsible for McCain to not fully vet her and could not believe the McC officials had to head off to Alaska Sat. AM to check out the Troopergate investigation. A general sense of disgust at the whole affair.

Palin was selected not because she would pull in the PUMA vote but rather because of the “image” it creates. For the uninformed and underinformed voter it reinforces the “maverickyness” the media promotes and it puts McCain in the minds of these voters as someone who is going to shake up Washington. Murphy supported McCain in 2000 and says she supports him now since Hillary isn’t the nominee. MSM allows her on because she helps to create the illusion of ‘millions’ of angry HRC supporters.

My brother has Down’s Syndrome and thanks to the absolute tireless work of my mother and father during his early childhood, he can read, write, and has a lot to be proud of in a world that certainly marginalizes him.
Even if this were not a special needs child, what sort of mother would take the time to run a political campaign aimed at an even more demanding job just a heartbeat away from the Presidency when she has a child that doesn’t sleep through the night and needs constant care from it’s mother?
