Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware brushed off a small throng of veepstakes-crazed reporters gathered at his Wilmington home today, saying "I'm not the guy":

As Delaware Sen. Joe Biden left his home a few minutes ago, golf clubs in tow, he was asked where he was going to be on Saturday.

Biden replied, "Here" and pointed down to his driveway.

As he pulled out of the driveway in the driver's seat of his car he then said to the press gathered near his gate, "You guys have better things to do. I'm not the guy. [NBC][Video]

Now, you might assume that Biden's statement means that he's out of contention for the VP slot, but nothing is that simple in the high stakes world of VP voodoo.

Did Biden mean that Obama told him that he was out of the running? Steve Clemons of the Washington Note speculates that Biden's just going to keep saying he's not the guy until he gets some positive indication that he is.

On the other hand, maybe the Obama campaign has already turned Biden down flat. They've already burst Wes Clark's bubble.

Many people consider Biden a top contender for the VP slot, in large part because of his foreign policy experience. Biden chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. His recent fact-finding mission to Georgia only served to burnish his image as a statesman.

Conventional wisdom as it that Obama needs a vice president with foreign policy experience.

How badly does Biden want the job? Biden was willing to say categorically in late 2007 that he wasn't interested in being Hillary Clinton's VP. (He said he felt that Bill Clinton would overshadow a Hillary Clinton presidency.)

Obama will text message supporters to announce his pick before the Democratic National Convention.

Biden is scheduled to speak at the DNC.
