Polls are all higgledy-piggledy in the crucial state of Ohio. That's the state where McCain and his campaign manager, Rick Davis, are worried about taking blame if a German company, DHL, shuts down a shipping hub at an airport in Wilmington, OH, where 8,600 Ohioans work. That's because, as long ago as 2003, McCain and Davis had a hand in convincing Congress to let the foreign company take over the facilities, over objections by Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) and others that other countries shouldn't control U.S. air commerce.
Now the Germans want to save money by closing the Wilmington operation and putting that stage of delivery in the hands of UPS.
So union leaders are making it an issue that McCain's guy took $185,000 in lobbying fees to encourage this development. Meanwhile, the McCain campaign is telling the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that "[a]t the time of the merger, no one anticipated an impact on jobs in Wilmington." The Original Maverick finds himself in town today, reassuring folks, in a private meeting, that he cares about job losses. Last month, when a told a distressed Ohio woman, asked him to hold Senate hearings on the downsizing, that he'd give her "straight talk" on the issue, which came in the form of saying he wasn't sure if he could do anything about it.
Anyway, the survey firm Public Policy Pollings found that late last month, Obama was ahead by a comfortable eight percentage points in late July. Then Rasmussen Reports found McCain ahead by an even more comfortable ten percent. But a survey by Quinnipiac University finds it too close to call. Meanwhile, no one knows whether the word "Quinnipac" means people from the long-water land or to make a change in the direction of travel.

Thanks for this John…I’ve really appreciated your research and analysis in this complicated situation.
The unions are indeed going to play a big role in this. I’ve been hearing that voter enrollment is waaaay up in Ohio. And of course, it’s looking like one of the 4 key battleground states where the Electoral College vote will be decided.
Ah yes, the mantra of the 21st Century Republican Party:
I guess I am confused - 8,600 Ohioans are working in Delaware?
It should be Wilmington, Ohio. My grandparents lived there.
That DHL banner is priceless.

I lived there as a child in the mid Fifties. The Airport there used to be Clinton County Airfield.
The so-called “public opinion polls” are just another tool in the holster of the Bush crime family and the complicit corporate media. They are designed to manipulate the public in preparation for the coming electronic election theft that worked for Bush and the GOP back in 2004. They want to keep things “close” for two reasons: for the corporate television to have a bigger better story line and to soften us up for another election theft.
Below is what I penned a few days after the stolen 2004 Presidential Election. Has much really changed since then? More voters will be using paper ballots this November, but most of them will be “counted” using easily hacked optical scanners run by Republican-controlled corporations…
Another stolen election: Bush stole the election again in 2004, by the rigging of right-wing corporate electronic vote-counting machines.
To the Editor:
The exit polls that showed a sweeping Senator Kerry Democratic election victory on November 2nd were right. Unfortunately, the 2004 Presidential election was cleanly stolen by Bush & Co. How, you say? With the help of Diebold, ES&S, Sequoia and SAIC, four interlocked secretive right-wing electronic voting machine manufacturers. We have entrusted the most important election task, that of actually counting and tabulating the vote totals to extremist organizations with secret proprietary vote-counting computer software with no auditable paper trail for hand recounts. How very convenient, how very clean, how very slick and with all the evidence of election rigging is buried deep on their computer hard drives.
Senator John F. Kerry won a landslide Democratic victory in the November 2, 2004 Presidential election by between two million and five million votes. The pre-election public opinion polls pointed to a large and growing Kerry election day majority and the election day exit polls also indicated a Kerry victory. Unfortunately, theocratic extremely right-wing computer election machine manufacturing corporations were in charge of “counting” the votes of millions and millions of Americans. Some how, a few million Kerry votes didn’t get counted and a few million bogus Bush votes showed up in the final election tallies and voile, a Bush “victory.”
Democracy in 21st century America has been kidnapped and destroyed by extreme right-wing control of the new secret computerized electronic vote counting systems. Verifiable hand-counted paper ballots are the only way to restore legitimate elections in America.
Just search the Internet for any terms such as “black box voting,” “Max Cleland,” “Diebold,” “Sequoia,” “SE&S,” “Greg Palest,” “election fraud” or “election theft” and you will find a wealth of information to help arm you in the coming fight to restore legitimate free elections and democracy in our country.
In 2002, the Republican Party staged their test run of controlling the new Diebold computerized paper-trail-free electronic voting systems that were installed in every precinct in the State of Georgia. It worked like a charm. Two popular Democratic incumbents, the Governor Roy Barnes and Senator Max Cleland, were both “defeated” by Republican challengers. The Democrats were both ahead by several points in both the pre-election voter opinion polls and in the election day exit polls, yet the Diebold voting machines declared the two Republican challengers as winners. The local media claimed to be “amazed” by this election “upset.” They should have been horrified and outraged. These elections were stolen electronically. There was no paper trail, no recount was possible and for good measure, Diebold Corporation “accidentally erased” the disputed 2002 election returns data from their computer hard disk drives a few days after the election. How convenient, how clean, how slick and how crooked is Republican election theft in the 21st century.
The 2000 and 2004 Presidential elections were both stolen by Bush & Company. The 2008 and 2012 Presidential elections will suffer the same fate unless we institute a complete and total return to traditional, verifiable hand-counted paper election ballots.
The Republican Party will never lose another Presidential election as long as we allow their corporate buddies to “count” our votes in secret.
Yours truly,
James K. Sayre

I wondered about how the sleepy little Wilmington I knew in the ’60s could have a major hub. Guess they got one of those “if you build it, they will come” pork deals like the one in a Republican district in central Illinois. Just a guess.
Swopa up
The last time I was there, the Air Force had built the base up unbelievably, especially when one considered it’s proximity to Wright-Patterson at Dayton. It has huge new hangars and new facilities of every type. It appeared ready for a major expansion of personnel and mission. Then they closed it!
I was surprised to learn that it sat fallow for eight years, I had always suspected it was some sort of boondoggle.
Interesting. Appreciate the info. I haven’t been back there since about 1970 or so. Does seem strange to build up a base so close to Wright-Pat.
OOh, I like the curtains and the “skin” here. What do you call a person who concedes their values for monetary gain? Would that be a McSlut?
For those of you with the eyes to see, and the ears to hear, I have put together a site that provides an interesting overview of the unfolding events of Revelation 12
Those who have done the research know that the underbelly of the Illuminati is satanism. This is why they censored the extraordinary eruption of Comet Holmes in October. There are pictures and further info explaining this monumental event at the site, under the “signs” button.
Go to “links” button for the astounding revelations last week from former Nasa official Clark McClelland, who supported astronaut Ed Mitchell’s recent comments regarding military involvement with alien races.
McClelland has admitted to seeing a 8 t0 9 ft tall alien on his monitor who was in the shuttle cargo bay during a classified shuttle mission. This week Clark put a artist’s rendering on his website of what he witnessed. Be sure to read the “incidents” links and you will get a pretty good idea of how credible of a witness Clark really is.
I will posting further info on the site in a couple of days that is going to shock you.

I’m sure McCain will get them to wait until after the election to downsize.
The Wilmington Base was a repair and parts depot for the Air Force — dating back to Second World War days. Then comes along the BRAC, the Base Realignment and Closing Commission, and the depots were reorganized and centralized, with Wilmington being closed in one or another of the rounds of BRAC. Wilmington got considerable aid to convert the base to the DHL facility as grants from the Feds as a result of the BRAC. Part of that deal was for DHL to sign a long term contract to use the Base and essentially anchor a business park plan. What McCain’s change in rules does is waste all the investment, most of it Federal, that has been sunk into the project.
Those DHL jobs are pretty well paying ones. Not at all unusual for the pilots to be based in Wilmington. Unless another anchor comes along that needs a major airport as part of the operation, this has a profound impact on the economy of this southwest central part of Ohio.
Yes, but if McOutsource is sending all those jobs to Germany, why were the Germans cheering Obama?
Anyone think that the wanky polls are designed to allow certain groups to steal the election in Ohio yet again.
