The word around town (or DC for that matter, not my town, Columbus) is that Sen. McCain may pick his VP just as the Democrats are closing shop in Denver, to limit any Democratic bounce.

It looks like it might be Mitt Romney too, which could (I stress could, in many ways it certainly could not) be more helpful as his Mormon background might get some positive press in Colorado and surrounding states where there is a large Mormon base--such as Utah, Nevada, Arizona (which is more of a swing state than you would think with it being McCain's home base), etc.

There used to be a tradition that said you didn't do things like this, but then again, there also used to be a tradition that said that the President listened to Congress and prisoners got due process. So why respect a silly old tradition such as this one?
