Sen. Landrieu is thought to be the only Democrat in the Senate who is potentially vulnerable this cycle, and a new poll has mixed news. She is up 6%, 46%-40% against party-switching, political opportunist John Kennedy (he was elected State Treasurer as a Democrat, but switched his party affiliation to run in this race).
So she is winning, but any incumbent under 50% is most certainly vulnerable (the one caveat here is that Kennedy, as statewide elected official, is also a statewide incumbent so his name recognition is probably higher than where many challengers start out).
I am a bit suspicious of this poll, however. It shows President Bush with a 56% approval rating in the state, and I don't remember the last time I saw him with that kind of approval in any state.
For example, a 5/28 SurveyUSA poll from Alabama gives President Bush a 45% approval rating, 52% disapprove. So unless Bush is much more popular in Louisiana, or things have gotten much better for him the last month down South (not reflected in national numbers) or SurveyUSA is wrong (certainly possible), something would seem to be remiss here.
In any case, I report you decide.
Update: SurveyUSA also has President Bush at 39% approval in Kansas and 37% in Kentucky in its most recent polls from May, two states that are certainly on par with Louisiana in the realm of political conservatism--which makes me suspect this Louisiana poll that much more.

If given the choice between a Democrat who votes with the Republicans (when it matters) and a Republican who might very well vote with the Democrats, I’ll take the latter, thanks.
