7:55 - MSNBC - Harold Ford Jr. discusses Barack Obama's "global DNA" and reminds those who might think Obama is "elitist" that John McCain married into a beer fortune. For that, Ford gets a "HA!" laugh from Chris Matthews.

8:01 - Fox - Obama has 2128 - or 10 more delegates than needed at this point.

Karl Rove is providing analysis tonight. I guess that means Don Siegelman won't be on the show.

8:06 - Bob Cesca, liveblogging at his uber-cool site, brings up something I was thinking when watching MSNBC. How did they get their numbers, showing Hillary Clinton leading in the popular vote by 3K votes? Are they not counting the caucus states? Because, um, they count.

8:08 - I just turned back to Fox. Karl Rove is on. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

8:11 - CNN - Wolf Blitzer says that Obama has 2114, and is four away. So they differ with Fox by 14. Also, Candy Crowley just said that Hillary Clinton "knows her place in the party" and will not take this fight to the convention. I am very, very, cautiously optimistic.

8:14 - Joba Chamberlain has already reached his pitch count in his first start as a New York Yankee. Only 2 innings and he's out. Bummer. Ok, back to The Greatest American Election. Ever.

8:18 - John McCain will be speaking soon. From Louisiana. I wonder if he showed up with that birthday cake he proudly displayed while New Orleans residents were drowning.

8:24 - Chuck Todd points out how Mitt Romney can help McCain in the West with Mormons and Michigan, his dad's state. Tom Ridge. Kay Bailey Hutchison. Sarah Palin. The names are flying. Mike Huckabee.

"McCain has a problem exciting evangelicals." Yes, as they are homosapiens, it makes sense.

8:31 - Howard Fineman on MSNBC- "Obama will offer Hillary the VP position...if he can be guaranteed in advance that she won't take it."

Fineman adds that Hillary doesn't want it, but but wants to be offered, and doesn't want it offered to another woman.

8:38 - McCain speaks - Thanks Hillary on behalf of his daughters. Which is why, I guess he called his wife a four-letter word that rhymes with runt and wants to put another Alito on the Court.

Democrats are for changes that worked in the mid-20th Century. You know, when McCain was only 45. And Republican policies have worked so well, I sure am ready to believe McCain that he knows what's best.

Wow, McCain just screwed his applause line. He needs some media training.

8:47 - Is trying to say he is not like Bush. I reminds me of The Life Of Brian. What have the Romans done for us? You know, besides education, the Aqueducts, the law, medicine, the roads....

McCain claims he puts his country before the special interests. Tell that to the lobbyists on staff who have done business with every dictator with a dollar and a dream.

All this "progress" would be lost in Iraq if Obama had his way. I guess McCain would have to be protected by 200 soldiers and 12 Appache Helicopters next time, instead of 100 soldiers and 6 Appaches.

Now McCain is trotting out how Obama will sit down and negotiate with terrible dictators. You know, the same ones his top advisors lobbied for.

8:53 - Anyone else notice that the crowd doesn't quite know when to boo or clap. Wonder who got the job of holding up the signs to tell them when to do which.

Now McCain is talking about "energy independence." Yeah, he's as likely to deliver that as Phil Gramm is to grow hair.

More Cesca brilliance: You know McBush's best asset in this thing? He's white. But not just white-white. He's almost translucent -- like those weird subterranean creatures that live in total darkness.

John McCain believes he can make healthcare cheaper. I hear he also believes that his speaking style is Churchillian and you won't soon need a crane to lift my eyelids if I keep listening to him.

MSNBC - Obama is the nominee. It seems everyone is agreeing. Obama is the nominee. Thank God they broke away from McCain's oratorical waterboarding of all cable tv viewers.

Ok folks - moving to liveblog thread 2 - please join us!
