Update: Video added up top
Update II: I upated the title to reflect what some commenters have said. It is certainly possible Edwards said "em" and not "him." As in "I voted for em." In which case, I was wrong. And it wouldn't be the first time.
Update III: Per Raw Story, John Edwards has now denied that he said "him" during the Morning Joe Interview.

While Hillary has a better health care plan(for now anyway), I always thought that most Edwards supporters would go with Obama. After all, if you were going to go with Hillary, you would have done so already. Part of the reason people picked Edwards or Obama was because they wanted an alternative to Hillary.
Edwards: Obama can beat McCain
Very perspicacious of you. And I believe that more clintonistas will vote for obama than the other way around.
do I hear a fatlady singing?
Perspicacious — booyah!
lalalalalalalalala
And here I had imagined you as a size 7
Ummm, ring size?
Good Morning Cliff -
quickly becoming the Winchell of the blogisphere (well, except for the whole meglomaniacal, didactic thingy) now aren’t ya ?
Hey, Barbara, I wasn’t sure you were still around yesterday when several of us asked why you don’t change your profile so as to let us know that you have a blog. That would mean your name would change colors and we could follow the link to your blog. Have you considered that and rejected the idea, or did you just not realize you could?
Hey, thanks for following up. I didn’t know I could. Hyper-wacko about not wanting to be a blog-ho.
WOW that’s quite a banner up top. Just noticed it.
the news headlines box shows union endorsement yesterday but when I click on it I’m directed back here - so which union was it ?
In the clip above it was interesting to note that clinton2 said “….hard working, white….”. Now I have no idea if she was saying that black people do not work hard … or what?
And who is that obnoxious woman that keeps interrupting Edwards?
the only health care plan that makes sense is single payer where the provider has a stake in keeping us healthy rather then a stake in denying claims that cost money
a private health care service gets no retunr on returning an individual back to productivity, the government does
it’s in the best interest for a private provider to deny a claim it’s in the best interest for the government to accept the claim
this is one of the most important pieces of this discussion yet nobody makes the point
Try the original source:
http://www.chron.com/disp/stor.....67042.html
umm no, she was saying some white folks (the obama supporters) don’t work hard.
actually what she is saying is he can’t win because he is black so don’t waste your rime nominating him. Of course there are a lot of assumptions have to be made for her argument to be credible.
did you know “persipiciouls” is derrived from “perris”?
errr
that’s my story and I’m stickin to it
They are so dim!! He said “I just voted for him on Tuesday” and they didn’t even respond! How stupid are they?
In regards to the healthcare issue it seems to me that there can, eventually, be only one solution, single payer as you say. I have yet to hear ANY good argument for keeping healthcare private and expensive.
God’s truth, Perris! 59% of Physicians agree with you. To hell with choice, gimme health care! The best thing I got out of the Military (other than me) was the VA. I would be in such trouble w/o them.
thank you - wow !
It’s hard to know where to start
Is this a trick question?
Sounded like an endorsement to me.
black hole stupid which is ever expanding
Hi Cliff….. Everyone from Phoenix says Hi….. Love your segments on KPHX radio ….. Thank you for the book so that others can see who McBush is…
I don’t know about yesterday, but AFGE and it’s head (a super) endorsed Obama today.here
No. They hounded him throughout the interview to say how he voted, and then when it slipped out, they completely ignored it.
I find the whole thing pretty disturbing. This had to have been a pretty scripted appearance and they just ignored when he went off-script and made news. That makes the “journalists” present for this interview absolutely incompetent in my view.
I was very happy with the comments Edwards made that are aimed at unifying the party and how he truly believes that Hillary wants what is best for the country and isn’t just carrying on the campaign for her own ends. That message gets somewhat dimmed for me because he delivered it in what turns out to be such a staged event rather than a true interview.
My position(and I’m sticking with it) is that people do NOT need insurance..they need healthcare.
And Edwards as much as admitted earlier in the interview that he would endorse the candidate for whom he had voted.
In regards the Edwards endorsement today. I do hope that he is afforded many and good opportunities to have genuine influence on obama and the party issues. He can go to areas of poverty and bring a message, and eventually bucks, to a whole lot of American’s in desperate need. And yes, I would like to see him in the cabinet.
and somewhere in New Mexico, someone’s reaching for dry shorts
thanks - Bilbo caught me upthread
Do you think a cabinet post is/might be a good place for him?
And all this time I thought perspicacious meant very sweaty arm pits! *g*
He has been vetted, twice, for the VP slot and has been deemed squeaky clean so he definitely could go there but failing that I would love to see him, as many FDLers would, in the Attorney General seat. He would certainly be in a position to get himself ready for the next run at pres.
he can mop up the fecal slug trail left by Scumbagzales and Mucousy.

I would certainly not reject that idea by any means, but I’d like to see him as head of DHS — and it’s “restructuring”
Fixed that.
I suspect that ‘they’ never even heard what Edwards said, marveling at their own voices and ‘command’ of the topic, as well as mindful of how ‘important’ a role they play in ‘informing’ the rest of us.
Besides, Jim, who actually listens these days?
Beyond the thoughtful many at FDL and a few other places …
Must admit I still like Edwards.
but my point is so valid yet no progressive uses it
a private provider is trying to turn profit, when the cost of a proceedure is more then the the fees they need to deny that proceedure, unless they have a negative return on total income they will and should deny that claim
the government gets positive return from most people and they need to return those back to productivity, it benefits the productivity of the individual, the their family and friends and the revenue the government enjoys because of the health of these assets
that’s the financial reason to go single payer through the government
there are more important social reasons as well
Pretty sure all you have to do is go to profile and fill in your website and your name will turn blue and become a link like RevDeb’s above at #12. If you’ll notice, if you click on her name, it takes you to her website.
Who was that dreadful woman that repeatedly interrupted Edwards? She was/is without enamored with herself.
the main thing here is you are NOT going to eliminate choice, and individual can STILL get their own health care
and their own will cost less because of the single payer competition
edit preview preview edit
without doubt is what I meant
It’s Mika Brzezinski, and she’s actually quite good. She regularly puts Scarborough in his place for fudging the facts…
The trick is to figure out how to allow the congress critters to get a hefty remuneration by passing a single payer system.
shorter…they will have to be bribed
One of the other big pluses I see to single payer is portability. I think that is a big factor! I hated looking for a new doctor every year because the teaser rates had increased to the employer so much that they had to shop for better teaser rates for insurance for their employees. I hated the idea that changing jobs meant changing doctors. Our system is broken and the only way to fix it is to stop switching rather than fighting. Time to fight!
I’ll take her over Joe Scabrous any day.

Now we have CNN creating a new metric. Red and Blue Democrats. Jeebus.
Thanks CHS. First time I have seen the program so other than first reaction I would not know.
That was an interesting interview. It made me miss Edwards again. Although he was very gracious and complementary to both candidates, his own reasons for exiting the process are identical to those of all of us who feel this primary has gone on too long and can only become more destructive.
I want to point out that this is the proper way to resond with “but that’s socialism”
it’s not “socialism” in perjurative, you are not forced to use the service you can still get your own and your own will wind up being less because they have to make your choice attractive over the system provided by the government
or threatened
we will field more and better progresives
unlike the republicans we do not support democrats simply because they campaign with a “d”
Next up: Plaid Democrats, in your state now!
What I’ve never understood is the Goopers’ insistence on this “it’s Socialism” thing. Anyone in business understands “investing in productive capacity”. People who are healthy and well are a damned site more productive and on the job than people who are not. Investing in people’s health and well being is smart business - waiting for them to get sick and then refusing them care is just ‘teh stupid’.
I swear sometimes I think some right wingers would rather cut off their feet rather than buy new shoes
Christy’s got a new post up top
All the media wonks agree that the dem primary is over- so of course they are moving on to cover the general election match up- right? Oh HELL no- they want to talk about Hillary 24/7 and then blame HER that they are talking about her…
Does the human genome have a deep defect that causes this irrational behavior?
Another Bush foreign policy victory. Looks like Hezbollah is taking over all of Lebanon!
Also, the Burma junta is pulling a Somoza and grabbing up international aid.
Congrats too for Condi Rice! We have the old Soviet Union back and rolling the nuclear missiles through Red Square once again……Seems like old times.

Just got this, no link so I apologize for the length:
Identical? I have to disagree. His candidacy was scuttled because his anti-corporate theme was not one the MSM wanted to air. My apologies if I have misconstrued your point.
The choice between health care and no health care is not a choice.
I was just thinking that a short while ago. The media apparently can’t cover the Democrats race AND cover John McCain too.
Multi tasking is too much for these mental midgets.

OT Crude oil is trading at around $125/bbl, this despite the fact that the US supply of crude oil increased by a very healthy 5.7 million bbls last week (putting it squarely at the midpoint of its average range). It increasingly irritates me when people point to supply/demand issues controlling price. If this were true, crude should be dipping in price this week but the reverse is happening. The real story continues to be the hedge fund driven play pushing money into oil and other commodities when the dollar weakens and pushing it out when the dollar shows any strength.
OT but did anyone listen to the Dianne Rheam show this a.m.? They had several “Democrats” call in to say they could not support Obama. One because of Rev. Wrights “anti-American radical” comments and the other because they could never vote for Obama because of his wife. The caller wanted someone that would bring “dignity” to the role of 1st Lady. I’m thinking they were Republican trolls spreading their lies, fears and misinformation.
I keep making this point;
a bussiness has to maintain it’s own assets, it’s building, it’s equiptment
it also has to maintain their labor force, health care needs to be part of the taxes businesses pay
and yes, that tax will include fees for those that are not employed, just as unemployment tax and social security benefits those who are not employed as well as those who are
Republicans and the corporate media are always pushing the fear of socialism to keep the citizenry in their places. Dumbed down and ignorant is what the American public needs. It means the ruling elites get a bigger share of the pie.
Thanks.
GOOPERS may be making a big mistake_ if americans understood socialism theyd want some
There were several callers to C-span’s Washington Journal parroting the same tripe. I initially had the same suspicions as you, but I wonder if some of the callers aren’t the real deal. There are a lot of people that are serious about the experience thing, although history demonstrates that has not been a reliable predictor of Presidential performance.
Thanks for the info.
I suspect you are correct, nomolous, although there are some who believe that the ‘critters’ are susecptible to … um ‘persuasion’ of another type, er … well, to be blunt, blackmail; So maybe we could hold their ‘coverage’, health-CARE, wise (insurance has NOTHINHG to do with it, since WE pick up the tab, ‘they’ all have universal ‘coverage’), … um … hostage, nicely, and politely, of course …
Oh, wait! That wouldn’t be ‘fair’ or even ‘balanced’, would it?
So?
We’d better start collecting our pennies. If enough of us did it, why in about fifty years …
I couldn’t believe he called himself a failed presidential candidate even if technically that is what he is. And somehow, listening to this video, I missed where he slipped and actually admitted he voted for Obama. When did that happen? Anyone have a time reference?
bluetoe2 at 67–yes i did, and emailed AGAIN, that friday is news round-up day, which is supposed to be round-up of the week’s news, and last time i looked there was more than the campaign going on—–can’t count now how many times i have sent a letter like this one…
once again, diane, there is more than the campaign going on……..
farm bill ’merged’, released on monday
The bill won’t be publicly available until Monday morning, when it will be posted on the House Agriculture Committee’s Web site at http://agriculture.house.gov/inside/FarmBill.html .
=========
i’d think this would be news–
the president is going to create an executive order that no govt funds go to any clinic that talks about abortion as an option…….same stipulation we give to foreign countries……80 anti-choice organizations handing him petitions to make it ’so’……..
noone should be allowed to tell my doctor what he/she can tell me, and how they can tell me………that is between my doctor and me……..
=========
hans van spokovsky–admittedly involved in voter fraud===bush wants him on the FEDERAL ELECTIONS COMMISSION………and three others……wants to get rid of dave mason, who wrote the violations letter to mccain…..

mccain staffers and the white house talk daily–daily

I don’t know if you have or not. My point was that he said he had determined that: although he was still gaining delegates, he was unlikely to win the nomination; that he believed a prolonged primary would not be in the best interest of the Democratic Party or country; he concluded that his own continued campaign could be damaging to the Party or Country.
Of course it was an overstatement on my part. Your reasons may be for totally different reasons.
Yup…he says, “I just voted for him on Tuesday”…
Correction: Your position regarding the continuation of the primaries may be based on totally different reasons.
Sorry, I’m in a hurry.
It could have been during the first part, after discussing that he voted for the person he would endorse, but wouldn’t reveal it, he said, “Barrack Obama doesn’t need my help.”
More likely, it was toward the end when it sounded like he said, “I just voted for him…” It possible he said something like, “I just voted for ‘em…” Those of us raised in the south occasionally would say “em” for “them,” if we didn’t want to reveal the gender.
Now, on the other foot:
We, the people, could declare that, henceforth, America was no longer a ‘Representative’ Democracy, but rather, a ‘Participatory’ Democracy, declare ourselves to ALL be the ‘Gummint’ and direct said Gummint to treat us all as ‘equal’ delegates and therby gain the exact same ‘coverage’ now enjoyed by the …um … ’select’ few.
But, even though WE is the Gummint, already … (”of the … for the … and by the …”) most folks would object … I suspect …
That objection based not on receiving ‘Coverage’, but rather on the amount of work necessary to being a truly responsible ‘participant’.
Today, when it all becomes too much, why you just hop on the Lobby-gravy train …
It’s a pretty good deal, considering …
A caller from Palm Springs (very red, Sonny Bono country) told Ed Schultz Show to say she was for HRC but is switching to McCain because of the way Dems are so “disorganized” and can’t run a decent campaign. Ed repeated back what she said in disbelief, and she said “oh, no that’s not what I said”.
Ed goes on to say, McCain is so very different in the positions and you’re going to vote for him because the dems are disorganized? You’re going to vote for someone who wants to continue the war in Iraq because you don’t think Obama can win? What kind of thinking is that?
She just hummed along and he took another caller. It sounded very suspicious. The next caller said she didn’t know what she was talking about. It made no sense and it sounded totally fake.
Doing my best
All that praise of Hillary sounded to me a little like “bless her heart”. But I could be wrong - I don’t understand Southern very well.
I don’t have time to sit through the whole thing, brevity please (and controls). So, I’ll take your word for it he endoesed Obama.
I hope John fights to clear the record on this white vote issue. He won his Senate race with only 41% of the white vote. Let’s see him fight that..
Obama won 40% of that same vote.
But this is proving a far sadder fact, that the racism and bigotry is NOT coming from all the non-Democrats and the red states, - the line fed to us by insiders of the party.
Pennsylvania - an all Democratic voters state, in fact, proved the polar opposite in comparison to Iowa and North Carolina.
Thankfully, Howard Dean and Obama have crashed down every barrier the insiders of the party like Emanuel and Schumer have put up, where they used fearmongering to cram candidates we didn’t want down our throats and forcing votes Democrats normally would never make.
Hillary can wait till Hell freezes over or another category 5 hurricane to blow Obama away - we’re still NOT GOING TO GIVE IT TO HER!! This is part of an argument on why that’s the case, that many voters are having about this election at Haaretz that I participated in:
“..Were America capable of coming out publicly to strip away the cover hiding the bigotry with the Democratic party long ago, Hillary would never have been the candidate.
The silent war here in America - the real divisions- are between those hardliners of both the US and Israel who want and pay the way for the hardline candidacy of Hillary Clinton, versus the rest of America, disgusted with the Bush and Netanyahu way of life and who seek a more moderate and balanced future for all peoples, under Obama.
And that war exists solely within the bowels of the Democrat party and is unknown to many.
But to those of us who have watched it happen- we say enough!
This is a fight now, for the Democratic party`s very soul. Good versus Bad. A soul who the majority of Americans are now coming to believe has been sold to war profiteers.
The tactics of racism and bigotry used by those same hardline supporters to try and get her elected, pushed their luck a little too far this time, ultimately culminating in the sad destruction of Hillary and Bill Clinton.
That’s Mika Brezinski and she is VERY obnoxious. You should see how bad she is when Joe Scarborough is on the show. She plays the dim witted bimbo to his big Kahuna. It’s sickening.
John Edwards is such a class act. I really miss seeing him in the campaign. I know he won’t be the VP nominee but an Obama/Edwards ticket would be wonderful.
